Seven Deadly Sins - Wrath

The ringing of the hammer against the bell *Ring, Ring, Ring*, my eyes open, I squint under the bright white lights, the room smelling of detergent and chemicals; clean.

People rushing outside the room door, yelling out: “We have more coming!”   The policeman outside my door was now looking around ever so nervously as to the cause and reason behind the panic that was occurring. Explosions in the distance now rocking the hospital ever so slightly; enough to cause shivers of worry throughout my body.

I smile, panic, hysteria, this is my place. I move my arm to get up, handcuffed.

Cursing to myself under my breath, as I spot the key lying on the bedside table, out of reach to my outstretched arm. Now ever so frustrated I look for something that could assist me in breaking free, or even moving the key closer, enough for my fingertips to just touch it. Then I would be free.

Looking around the room, I notice the cords to my heart monitor lying across my bed, estimating that they may just be long enough; I cast a waring look to the guard now feverishly deciding between two tasks, to assist the many, or to guard the one.

He began to look into my room, not to arouse suspicion I remained still, pretending to sleep deeply. He shut the door and left, after glancing back once more.

Oh the thanks I gave to him, he may be spared later if I met him once more.

I flick the cords and manage to land it behind the key, perfect. Scooping the key into my hand I grab the key and quickly unlock the handcuffs.

Freedom.

Grabbing a lab coat from behind the door I rush out, blending in, to complete the destruction I had planned to cause.

Running out of the hospital, I think to myself of where the car park was, where the detonation would occur. This hospital would pay, my father should have been treated fairly.  They will pay. Rushing past a security guard bending over assisting an old woman I grab his neck, twisting, rendering him unconscious, grabbed his 9mm Glock, feeling the cold  metallic rush through my fingertips. I near the car, spotting three armed guards, one of which was my arresting officer, head of the investigation into my notorious plan. Removing the gun from against my hip I place it against the boot of the car, aiming at their heads, three pops. As they dropped to the ground one by one like limp dolls.

Smiling as I felt the adrenaline rushing through me I ran towards the car. There was not much time left. Rushing forward opening the car door I key in the four digit pin into the briefcase. Twisting the detonator to ‘armed’ I brace myself for the grand finale, of which I could see perfectly. I take a deep breath ready to witness the greatest moment in my life.

I press the red button.

Nothing happened.

I push again, nothing.

And again, nothing…

Frowning I look down examining the box..

BOOM

I look up surprised, a smile spreading across my face. Hearing screams, the creaking of metal and mortar, People running and the screams of the dead.

He has been avenged.

Wrath
