Rough Intro to Novella

Funeral in the rain, sea of black and white suits, tear stained eyes, mascara falling. droning words of a minister leading the service, meaningless memories retold by friends and family i never knew. Shallow apologies and compliments intended for the dead unhelpful to the sadnesss.

I think i’ll update you on my progress as i write, but won’t write key details or detailed paragraphs from it, keep it rough, but want you to want it more :) I’m liking it already. :)

I was always hoping you'd come back, i guess there's no return from death, i still miss you all every day. I wish you had never left. I wish i had gotten to you sooner.

The lonely embrace.

White, my mind blank, nothing filling it, no thoughts passing through, my senses numb, I didn’t feel, I didn’t think, I knew nothing.

All that was with me, was the static filling my ears, followed by murmurs of my name, through this white fog, I was nowhere.

I was alone.

The fog lifting around me, the murmurs becoming clearer.

“Tom, Tom? Stay with us buddy, we’re almost there.” An unrecognisable voice shouted, his voice dulled, sounding as if it had been slowed.

“Give him a dose of adrenaline, it’ll help stabilise him.” Another voice shouted, becoming even more clearer.

A stabbing feeling penetrated my leg, coursing up my torso and head, the adrenaline pushing itself through my veins.

I gasped, my senses returning as I regained consciousness, my eyes open to see two people standing over me, dressed in teal.

My head pounding, I attempted to look around, my neck unable to move..

“Woah now, don’t move Tom, we have you in a neck brace until we reach the hospital and check you out. You’ve been in an accident, can you hear me?” One of the men asked, his voice much softer than before.

I opened my mouth uttering a quiet, “Yes”.

It went black again.

I won’t ever forget that day, I sit here in the park opposite my street, three years later. My life has changed a lot since that accident, my mother’s death that day, still haunts me.

I watch a bird settle on a nearby branch, singing its birdsong to follow the sunrise of the early spring morning, the cool breeze wrapping itself over me, to be fought off by the goosebumps forming on my skin. The small bird now joined by what seems it’s partner, joining it in it’s hearty song. Awaking the natural neighbourhood.

It became an obsession of mine to awake before the sun, watching as nature began it’s day, not necessarily the healthiest of obsessions mind you…

To be continued.

I stand in the centre of the jostling crowd, each person blundering about past me, oblivious to the human that blocked their path, acting as if I were the very floor in which they tread upon.Ignorant in our ways, we as a society tend to focus on the bigger picture, avoiding what is really upon us, in front of us, staring us right in the face. I stand still watching, how many of us notice the little things around us, the signs that we pass the little parts of the city that build it to the great place that it is.
They say we are all unique.
We’re not.
We are individuals in ways, yes, but we are never truly unique, we all strive for the same goal.. To live.
If we can really call it living.
A woman curses at me as she barges past. “Move out of the way, i’m late!”
Only if you chose to look at time as an indicator.
I start to move again, against the people rushing through, causing frustration amongst the many.
Curses flying past as their blank faces move through me, acknowledging me, yet never really seeing me.
We’re too focused on ourselves to notice each other.
No one sees the beauty in the world any more.

Unfortunate Timing.

His eyes rose from his book, glancing at the door as he heard the three timed knock, his eyebrows furrowed; only one person knocked like that.

“What are you doing here.” He called as she entered the room struggling to open the door of his clothes covered floor.

“You really should clean this up you know Sean,” she sighed as she tiptoed across the floor, “This room used to be so neat.” She sat at the edge of his bed, her face in anguish; he didn’t notice as he returned to reading, grunting and shaking his head at her presence.

“You never answered my question.” He said, still focused on the book in front of him. His brow still furrowed as he started breathing through his nose.

Sighing again, she draped her arms around her crossed legs putting her head between her knees. A shadow covering her face as a cloud passed over the sun, rumblings of a storm in the distance.

“I have a confession to make, you’re not going to like it.” She took a breath, waiting for him to raise his head and look at her.

He continued reading.

“I’m moving out with Brian.”

His eyes shot up, wavering as the realisation hit him. The book flying out of his hands, as his body followed his head in shock, the book landing on the floor, camouflaging itself with the mess.

“How could you do this to me!” He yelled, “Why would you betray me like this?” Sitting up now. His hands clenched heavily, nails digging into his palms in an attempt to channel his anger.

“Betray you? How does this Betray you?” She returned yelling, her anger rising as he accused her.  “You get what you want, me out of this place, you’ve been ignoring me ever since he asked me out!”

“Why do you think?” His voice now softening as he paused.

“I was in love with you.”

“Oh bullshit, you never loved me!” She screamed at him, tears forming at the ends of her downcast eyes, soft droplets revealing her torment.

“Yes!” He exclaimed, his voice now even softer, “I did… I never told you, because I was scared!”

She turned away, trying to wipe the tears away, stemming the flow, only to have her shoulders join them, shaking as she sobbed.

“Scared of what?” She stammered, her words forced with fear and sadness.

“Scared that you’d treat me like any other guy…. Like dirt” he uttered, his eyes downcast upon the ground. A look of hopelessness and regret washing across his face. “I was the best friend, you never saw me as anything more.”

“Of course I did!” She yelled, standing up now exasperated. “You just didn’t have the balls to do anything about it or the eyes to notice it!” She paused, getting up moving over to the door. “I gave you the chance, but you wouldn’t take it.”

“Goodbye”. She said, and slammed the door.

If he had looked closer, he would see the tears falling from her eyes, as she mouthed the words “I love you.”

Instead his eyes, now watering, had returned to the book lying open on the ground as she got up to leave. The book containing the journals of their time spent together. The page beginning with the lines:

Dear diary, today i’ll tell her what i feel.

Today I’ll tell her how much I love her.

All I can think about his him. His smell, his voice, his touch. His gentle breathing on my neck as he runs his fingers through my bangs. The way he holds me from behind and whispers he loves me. The way he goofs off and acts silly because he knows no matter what he will always have my love.
My heart is slowly breaking into pieces without him. I don't know if I can take it any longer. I don't know what he thinks for feels or wonders. Without him this is all I can be; a sickly mess of emotions. I feel pathetic and lifeless without him.

Has he left you? Or gone away for a while? If the latter, let him know how you feel. Ask him if he’s the same. As for the former, well maybe  you telling him might push you together again.
